Who: ICON Exhibits for Allen County Public Library

What: Reading Tower Design

How: The Reading Tower is the centerpiece of the Children's Services department of the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne. This learning environment for children ages 7 through 12 is exciting, immersive, safe and definitely “cool”. This two-level experience has colored bubble chairs for kids to comfortably use by themselves and read. There are two counters on the lower level where kids can read or work on other projects that require a desk. The Tower is a "no shoes" environment, with cubbies for shoes under the circular benches. With extended durability and low maintenance in mind, the chosen materials include translucent colored polycarbonates, laminates, vinyl, and faux leather. A necessary, but hidden, steel structure is completely embedded in the shapes and colors of this structure.
